The American Legion was founded in 1919 in Paris, France, at the close of World War I.
The organization now includes veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon/Grenada periods,

Operation Just Cause in Panama, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Global War on Terror.

The American Legion, since its founding, has endeavored to assist veterans, their widows and children,

and their fellow citizens. The North Carolina American Legion, with over 40,000 paid members,
is proud to carry on this tradition. We invite you to join us and help support America’s Veterans.

American Legion Post 86 meets every 1st Thursday at 5:45 PM for the Fish Fry.
The meeting starts at 7:00 PM.

Join us in saluting our nation’s veterans and supporting their families with the American Legion Family –
American Legion Post 86, American Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, and American Legion Riders.

We are a community of veterans and their families who are dedicated to:

  • Supporting veterans and their families with essential services and benefits
  • Advocating for veterans’ rights and issues
  • Promoting patriotism and national security
  • Engaging in community service projects

Here are just a few of the ways we make a difference in Cornelius, NC:

  • We provide financial assistance to veterans and their families in need.
  • We offer scholarships to students of veterans.
  • We host community events such as blood drives and food drives.
  • We provide support and advocacy for veterans who are struggling with homelessness, mental
    health issues, or substance abuse.

We are always looking for new members to join our ranks and help us continue our mission
